Aston Villa travelled to face Nottingham Forest knowing a win would take them into the top four but couldn’t capitalise. With that being said, let’s take a look at the player ratings…

It is safe to say Aston Villa came into the game in great form and were confident of securing yet another win.

It must be said that Unai Emery can’t have been happy with what he saw on the day as they lost their first Premier League game since September.

The game started badly for the Villians as Forest took the lead after just five minutes. Ola Aina smashed the loose ball in from range.

Villa dominated the ball all game having over 70% possession across the 90 but couldn’t make it count.

Forest doubled their lead just two minutes into the second half as Orel Mangala’s strike from range was spilled into the bet by Emiliano Martinez.

After dominating the rest of the second half, the Villains failed to create many clear-cut chances and fell to defeat.

Aston Villa player ratings

Emi Martinez- 4/10

The Argentine has been credited with an error leading to goal as his parry found the net early in the second half. With that being said, he didn’t have much to do and on another day the rest of the team did him a favour.

Matty Cash- 5/10

Up against his former club, Cash didn’t do very much and was taken off after just 59 minutes. There is not much to say, an average score for these player ratings.

Ezri Konsa- 5/10

There’s not much to say. Villa conceded two long-range goals and didn’t have anything much else to deal with. He loses points for misjudging the ball which led to Forest’s second goal.

Pau Torres- 6/10

Similar to his centre-back partner Konsa. Torres always looks good with the ball at his feet and he did again. It must be said the offside trap for Villa was superb and it was the attack which let the side down. Deserving of some leniency on the player ratings is Torres.

Lucas Digne- 5/10

Was one of the only players causing problems defensively for Forest. With that being said his end product was dreadful and had he been better the result is completely different. He is lucky his score isn’t lower on this player ratings list.

Boubacar Kamara- 6/10

Had a shaky start but ultimately had a good game compared to everyone else wearing blue on the pitch. Despite being taken off early, he was probably Villa’s best player on the day. Not that, that is any compliment.

Douglas Luiz- 5/10

One of his worst games in a long, long time. Forest obviously saw him as a danger and closed him down well. He wasn’t able to get on the ball and do as he usually would. Probably fortunate to not have a lower score in this player ratings.

John McGinn- 6/10

Quiet. McGinn did have several trademark moments but they didn’t lead to anything. Everybody had an off day and he wasn’t exempt from that.

Nicolo Zaniolo- 4/10

Taken off at halftime for the second match in a row. Leon Bailey poses so much more of a threat right now. He looks devoid of any confidence and really needs to buck up his ideas because he is in danger with Jacob Ramsey returning.

Moussa Diaby- 5/10

Anonymous. Considering how electric Moussa Diaby has been since signing, this game was miles off what fans are used to. Passing rather than shooting in key areas was frustrating and although he had a good effort saved, it wasn’t good enough.

Ollie Watkins- 5/10

Again, anonymous. This wasn’t necessarily Watkins’ fault, the service he received was non-existent. Hard to give him a score in these player ratings as he didn’t do anything good nor bad.

Substitutions

Leon Bailey- 5/10

Youri Tielemans- 6/10
