Why Aston Villa should repeat Emiliano Buendia success by moving for EFL ‘revelation’

Aston Villa are one of several clubs who are yet to do any business in this transfer window.

Unai Emery has spoken about strengthening his Aston Villa squad but there have been talks of needing to sell a few players to balance the books.

According to several sources, Everton’s 10-point deduction for breaching PSR has created nerviness around spending.

Most clubs in the league are now being careful before committing to anything as they know the ramifications that overspending can have.

Tottenham – bankrolled by Harry Kane’s departure last summer – are the only team showing signs of splashing the cash.

Timo Werner has arrived on loan from RB Leipzig while highly-rated centre-back Radu Dragusin has joined from Genoa. In total, Premier League clubs have only spent a paltry £31.5 million, a fraction of the £345 million spent a year ago.

It doesn’t look as though Villa are going to open the chequebook as much as they did in the summer, but if they fancied splashing some big cash, they should go in for Norwich City winger Jonathan Rowe.

Villa have had previous success shopping at Carrow Road having prised Emiliano Buendia to Villa Park in 2021, and Rowe could become the latest Norwich player to make that switch.

Why Aston Villa should repeat Emiliano Buendia success and sign Jonathan Rowe

Rowe is currently tearing the Championship to shreds, not on the same level as Buendia did a few years ago, but he’s still terrorising defences every week and earning a growing list of admirers.

Villa are one of the clubs who have shown their interest on numerous occasions and there’s no surprise why.

The 20-year-old has produced a long list of individual displays and in turn, single-handedly dragged an average Norwich side into the play-off equation.

From his brace in the East Anglian derby against Ipswich Town to his mesmeric solo effort against Hull City, the England U21 star has proven he has an incredible skillset in his locker.

Hailed as a “revelation” by talent scout Jacek Kulig for his frightening pace and impeccable close control, Rowe would slot perfectly into Villa’s side on the left flank.

The left side of midfield is a position that has lacked any cutting edge for Villa. John McGinn, who is naturally a central midfielder, has often had to play out there.

While he hasn’t done a bad job, Emery needs to dip into the market for a new winger and Rowe should be up high up on his list.

Indeed, Villa should repeat their masterstroke of signing Buendia by prising the talented youngster away from the Canaries, and though a move would be unlikely to happen in January, a summer transfer would certainly be an exciting possibility.
