It has been a great year for Aston Villa but with this comes a need to improve the squad. Here are three players that could be sold in 2024…
It has been a great year for Aston Villa under Unai Emery which has seen them rise up through the Premier League. This has the Villans enter a fight for Champions League football after achieving Europa Conference League qualification last year.
With the excellent form that has been shown across the course of 2023, there have been many standout performers. From Emi Martinez in goal to Ollie Watkins up front, it has been a great year for the stars in B6.
With that being said, this excellent form comes with its drawbacks for other members of the squad who are on the fringes. Let’s take a look at three players who may be sold this year…
1. Robin Olsen
Although he is just a backup to Villa’s Argentine number one, Olsen may feel like his future lies elsewhere. The Villans are in need of a second-choice keeper who can play in a similar way to Martinez, which doesn’t come naturally to the Swede. As a result, he may be sold in the coming months.
In nearly two years at the club, according to FotMob, he has managed just 14 appearances in all competitions. Although he has had some positive performances such as against Tottenham, he will be likely to move on.

2. Calum Chambers
It has been a strange spell at Aston Villa for Calum Chambers. Considering he signed on a free transfer from Arsenal, he has been a useful player.
Under Emery, he hasn’t got much, if any game time which will likely see him sold. According to Fotmob, he has featured in just three games this season, all of which were in the Conference League. His last Premier League came in April, where he played just 26 minutes.
It appears that Chambers isn’t needed by Villa, even as a squad player and as a result, he should be sold.
3. Bertrand Traore
The man who helped to secure European football for the club last season Bertrand Traore will always be remembered by Villa fans. Following his world-class goal against Leicester City last season, Birmingham Live referred to him as a ‘maverick’.
He has had a lack of minutes since his £17m move from Lyon in 2020. Despite loan moves away from the club, he hasn’t revived his career in B6. With just 10 minutes over two Premier League appearances it is most likely he will be sold moving forward.
