Manchester United have sacked Erik ten Hag.
Only a couple of weeks ago, Aston Villa recorded a 0-0 draw against Manchester United and you have to wonder how the home team let such a big opportunity slip.
In truth, in regards to how Aston Villa played on that day, they didn’t deserve anything, but it was certainly dropped points because Manchester United were there for the taking.
But since then, nothing much has improved at Old Trafford and the inevitable happened on Monday and that was ten Hag getting booted out.
Since then, names left, right and centre have been linked with the Manchester United job, with many questioning if the 20-time champions still have the lure to bring in the big names.
Villa fans have slammed Paul Scholes’ comments on Emery, with the former midfielder seemingly still living in the past and thinking Emery would ‘walk’ to the vacant role in Manchester.
But whilst one ex-player talks complete and utter rubbish, another in Martin Keown has spoken the truth that every Villa fan will agree with.
Unai Emery wouldn’t leave Aston Villa for Manchester United
Villa are in the Champions League and sitting in the Premier League’s top four with one of the best squads in England.
Added to that, Villa are sitting top of the Champions League table and, so far, they are proving that they are going to move forward and forward only.
Keown wanted to highlight that and how Emery has all the power at Villa and that would be another reason to stay in his current role, as he told talkSPORT.
The former centre-back added that Emery will ‘go down in history’ for what he is doing in B6, so there is no reason for him to leave.
“No,” responded Keown on if Emery would leave Villa for Manchester United right now. “I don’t think he would. I think Emery, when he was at Arsenal, he tried to make changes and he was a manager who wanted to make changes.
“He has got that support at top to bottom at Aston Villa. He is making great strides there. It’s incredible what he has done in just two years. I don’t see him ripping that project up and going into Manchester United somehow.
“Not at this stage. He has been at the big club, PSG in the past and he has been incredibly successful. Villa is his club and he is making major changes there. He is going to go down in history for what he is achieving at that football club, so no, I don’t see that happening. I am sorry.”
Emery’s record at Aston Villa
Emery is a record-breaker at Villa, not only has he guided the club to Europe’s elite competition, but he is doing it in style.
Unlike ten Hag, it has been pretty clear how the former PSG coach wants to play, regardless of whether you like it or not.
That high line is a thing of beauty and it has resulted in the team’s rapid progression.
As posted by transfermarkt, Emery has won 53 out of his 96 matches and pretty soon he will be raising his bat because he will manage game number 100.
