Jamie Carragher has a message for ‘frustrated’ Aston Villa fans after Team of the Season snub

Aston Villa sit second in the Premier League table after 20 games and are only three points behind leaders, Liverpool.

You would think when doing your Team of the Season at the halfway stage that at least one Aston Villa player would get in the XI.

But not if you are Jamie Carragher or Gary Neville. They put out their own respective XIs for Sky Sports recently and couldn’t find any room from those donning the Villa Park turf.

That led to an outcry from the Aston Villa fans, who were keen to mention and highlight the performances of Douglas Luiz, John McGinn and Ollie Watkins this term, to name a few.

Since then, ex-Liverpool centre-back Jamie Carragher put out a message to the Villa fans by telling them to ‘relax’ and how he ‘understands’ our frustration, as he posted on Twitter

He also asked ‘which player of yours was the biggest omission?’ Well, take any Villa midfielder to play ahead of Cole Palmer or Bernardo Silva, for a start.

Remember, it was John McGinn who bossed around Bernardo Silva at Villa Park a few weeks ago!

Then you could pick Ollie Watkins ahead of Jarrod Bowen. The latter has 13 goal involvements this season in comparison to the Villa man’s 19.

Jamie Carragher’s message to Villa fans

“The team of the season is a bit of fun so relax,” said Carragher.

“Not necessarily who we think are the best players, but players who in different circumstances have excelled so far. Understand Villa fans’ frustration, but which player of yours was the biggest omission??”

Aston Villa going under the radar

Listen, Villa fans shouldn’t worry too much about these snubs. Let it happen. The more of this, the merrier.

All of this just equates to less pressure because people are now expecting us to fumble towards the second half of the season.

And the more games we win, the more this team, which has done wonders under the stewardship of Unai Emery, can shut people up.
