Aston Villa are set to bring Jaden Philogene back to Villa Park on Monday with one reputational journalist explaining why he wanted to return.

Unai Emery is set to bring another two players to the club next week. Everton’s Amadou Onana is linked to join Villa for around £50 million with the two clubs negotiating a deal for the midfielder.

However, one transfer that may have gone under the radar is that of Philogene.

The winger came through Aston Villa’s academy and was highly rated by the club. Yet, last summer he opted to move permanently to Hull City to get valuable game time.

Down in the Championship, the 22-year-old impressed which resulted in both Everton and Ipswich looking to secure his services.

However, Villa are now set to re-sign the winger for around £15 million thanks to a buy-back clause in the deal.

Now, journalist Ben Jacobs has explained why Philogene wanted to return to Villa Park

While joining Aston Villa over Everton and Ipswich may seem a natural choice, Philogene has always put his playing time over most.

At the two Premier League clubs, he would have arguably received more. However, Jacobs believes there are two big reasons why he chose to come back.

Talking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: “Philogene had strong options from Villa, Ipswich and Everton and took his time to decide. Ipswich felt optimistic right up until Villa activated matching rights.

“The chance to work with Unai Emery, and play in the Champions League, were two big factors. Philogene knows Villa having only left a year ago, and his 2023 move to Hull came with a healthy sell-on as part of the deal.

“That means Villa will get Philogene for under £15 million. Even as the club buying, they can still cash in on the 30% clause.”

One thing Villa greatly prides itself on is the success of the academy. Over the years there have been plenty of players who have gone on to become stars at the club.

Jack Grealish is the most famous in recent years while Jacob Ramsey is currently a first-teamer.

Philogene now has the chance to follow in their footsteps. The winger clearly has plenty of potential and will likely be heavily involved in Emery’s first-team plans this season.

Hopefully, the Villa Park faithful can get behind the youngster to ensure he gets off to the best possible start back in a Claret and Blue jersey.
