Aston Villa target Lutsharel Geertruida was in action for Feyenoord on Saturday as their Eredivisie campaign kicked off.
Unai Emery will be hopeful of making further movements in the summer transfer window before deadline day.
One Aston Villa target is Feyenoord defender Lutsharel Geertruida, who is capable of playing centre-back, right-back and defensive midfield.
On Saturday, the Dutchman kicked off the Eredivisie campaign by captaining his club, with his display proving why Villa are rumoured to be eyeing his services.

Aston Villa target Lutsharel Geertruida was impressive for Feyenoord against Willem
Feyenoord’s start to life in the Eredivisie without Arne Slot didn’t go to plan, as Willem claimed a point from the opening day fixture.
It wasn’t all doom and gloom for the hosts, however, as there were plenty of strong performances evident on the day.
One of which was Villa target Geertruida, who might have prompted Monchi to speed things up in the transfer window.
Lutsharel Geertruida performance v Willem
90 minutes played
89 touches
93% pass completion
6/7 long balls completed
1 key pass
1 shot on target
100% aerial duels won
As seen above, it was a strong performance from the defender, who played on the right side of a back three against Willem.
It’s clear to see why Villa are rumoured to like the 24-year-old, given the lack of defensive depth and defensive frailties currently in Emery’s back line.
Geertruida’s strengths are exactly what Unai Emery needs
From being defensively solid to being a progressive outlet, Geertruida had it all against Willem, with the only thing missing from his display being a win.
With Diego Carlos linked with a transfer and Matty Cash out of Villa’s squad against Borussia Dortmund, Emery will surely be more motivated than ever to chase the Feyenoord star.
In signing the Netherlands international, Villa could add a player equipped with the ability to play in a variety of defensive positions, something that would only benefit Emery’s squad at this moment.
The 2024/25 campaign is set to be a significant challenge for the Midlands club, who will have Premier League and Champions League battles to overcome.
With a rise in standard and stakes to contend with, Villa must be prepared to bolster their depth at the back this summer, as Emery saw last season how vital having numbers in his squad was, as injuries plagued the Villans’ campaign.
After seeing what Geertruida did against Willem, those at Villa Park will surely have a firm eye on the possibility of capturing his signature before deadline day.
