Aston Villa are showing an interest in Bayer Leverkusen right wing-back, Jeremie Frimpong in spite of new contract reports.
Following the departure of Ashley Young this summer, there had been consistent links to right back during the transfer window.
Gonzalo Montiel and Nahuel Molina were linked but no move ever came to pass.
With all that being said, Matty Cash is the only out-and-out right back at the club so reinforcements are needed in January.
Ezri Konsa and Callum Chambers have been able to cover there, but an option with the quality of Frimpong could be great.
Who is Jeremie Frimpong?
Kicker has reported that Villa is one of a long list of teams to be interested in the Dutchman.
There are also contrasting reports, suggesting that Frimpong is set to sign a new contract with Xabi Alonso’s side.
Frimpong is a wing-back by trade and has had season after season at the top level.
This has seen him become one of the highest-rated players in his position and as a result, has seen links to Manchester United.
He is a speedster and as a wing back could be a great weapon down the right-hand side.
Following Leon Bailey and Moussa Diaby to Villa Park, Frimpong could dovetail with that pair very well.
This all sounds great but if he does sign a new deal, he could cost a pretty penny.
With the form of Matty Cash so far this season, he is going to take some dislodging. Some fresh, stern competition could be a good thing.
