Aston Villa have now learned the asking price of one former transfer target that could tempt Unai Emery to approach him this summer.

Unai Emery and Monchi will tread carefully around Aston Villa’s PSR concerns in order to bolster the squad in the upcoming transfer window.

The Villans will hope to build on their fourth-place finish last season but will need to squad to match, with several top quality players already linked.

There could be some issues regarding finances due to PSR woes, making one former target’s price tag a particularly tempting scenario for Emery.

Aston Villa learn the asking price of former transfer target Kieran Tierney

Last summer, Aston Villa were linked with Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney, who looks set to be on the move this summer.

The 27-year-old, who was signed at Arsenal by Emery, spent the season on loan with Real Sociedad, as his position at the Emirates became compromised due to competition.

As a result, Villa could be tempted to resurface their interest in the left-back, particularly now that his price tag has been learned.

Noted in the print edition of The Sunday Post [09/06/2024], the Gunners would be open to letting Tierney depart for a mere £10m this summer.

The report surrounds a possible Celtic return for the Scotland international however, mentions that the Hoops would struggle to afford his price tag.

Villa must now take advantage of Tierney’s transfer situation, particularly as Emery would benefit from signing a new left-back at Villa Park.

Tierney could be the ideal signing for Unai Emery

Once lauded as ‘sensational’ during his time at Arsenal by journalist Sam Dean, Tierney found himself in a difficult situation in North London.

While the 27-year-old’s quality has never been questioned, he has struggled to fit into Mikel Arteta’s side in recent years, with the Spaniard preferring to play with inverted wingbacks.

Emery is yet to follow such trend, which could make Villa a suitable home for Tierney, who has plenty of years ahead of him to find his way back to succeeding at the top level.

Villa’s two left backs are currently Lucas Digne and Alex Moreno, with both players being 30-years-old or over, and both being prone to injury.

A swoop for Tierney would be a positive move for the Villans, where Emery could reconnect with a player he nurtured at Arsenal and a player who would fit Villa’s system.

At just £10m, now could be the perfect time for the Midlands club to approach the Scotland international, who could add further quality to the defence at Villa Park.
