Aston Villa are reported to still be interested in signing Sevilla and Argentina defender, Marcos Acuna in the January window.
It looked like a deal that would get done in the summer as Aston Villa were linked to signing Marcos Acuna in January.
With that being said Villa have been in great form and have witnessed some great performances from their left backs.
Lucas Digne has played the majority of games, he has gone from being on the chopping block to an important star. Now Alex Moreno is back in the first team following his return from injury and has performed well.

This would have Villa fans believe that a new left-back wouldn’t be on the agenda in the January transfer window. Despite this, links to Acuna have returned in the latest window in a recent report.
Aston Villa linked to Marcos Acuna again
As a World Cup and Europa League winner last season, the Villans being linked to him wasn’t spoken down by fans. With that being said, Digne’s form has changed fans’ mind on whether he would be needed.
Although that may be the case, in a report by The Athletic they have suggested that Unai Emery still has interest in the Argentine.
Discussing this, they said: “Marcos Acuna was the left-back Villa wanted intently in the summer and may do so again despite the outstanding form of Lucas Digne. Emery had deep-seated knowledge of Acuna from managing against him in La Liga, while Monchi knew and had worked with him during their time at Sevilla.”
It is safe to say that the Villa manager and his team around him know what they would be getting should he come in. It does still come as a surprise that his signing may still be wanted. The reason has been stated by this report.
On that, they added: “He fitted Villa’s preference for a more adventurous left-back who could essentially become a quasi-left-winger in possession: he was used on the left wing at times for Argentina during their success at last year’s World Cup.”
This could potentially be done for financial reasons, as opposed to footballing reasons. This was discussed by The Athletic: “Even accounting for his impressive form at left-back, starting every Premier League fixture this season, he is among the highest earners at £120,000 per week and his departure would alleviate the financial books.”
It must be said that his age would come as a concern to fans as it is unclear whether or not he would be an upgrade. Now it seems like a deal could be possible for Acuna this winter.
