Over recent weeks, Aston Villa star, Douglas Luiz has been linked with a move to Arsenal but Unai Emery has had his say.
Following Aston Villa’s promotion to the Premier League, Douglas Luiz was one of the many signings made that summer.
Although it took some time, the Brazilian has become an important part of the Villans’ squad. This is especially apparent under Unai Emery in the past 12 months.
Villa have gone from strength to strength under the Spaniard’s tutelage and many players are much improved. Players like Ollie Watkins have become top Premier League players and Luiz is following suit.
The form and class he has shown in the past season have put him on the radar of a much larger audience. This has also seen other clubs show an interest in securing his signature, with Arsenal the strongest links to the midfielder.
With that being said, the Villa boss wasn’t so sure about the rumours.
What has Unai Emery said about Douglas Luiz?
Luiz has been an everpresent since Emery came in through the doors in B6. So far this season he has featured in every Premier League game and has seven goal involvements in that time.
Under previous managers, he had been misprofiled as a defensive midfielder and often used as a single pivot. Nowadays he has formed a top-class partnership with Boubacar Kamara in the heart of the Villa midfield.

There have been reports suggesting that Luiz is of interest to Arsenal and Mikel Arteta in the January or summer transfer window.
Following the superb comeback win against Tottenham Hotspur, Emery was asked by the Daily Mail about a potential move away for Luiz.
On that, the Spaniard said: “Douglas is playing very good. His commitment is amazing. I want to keep him and he is happy with us.”
It is good to hear from the Villa boss as there has been concern amongst the fans that their star could leave. With that being said, the Villans are currently in a title race and a more probable challenge to secure Champions League.
Although the Gunners are looking to win the Premier League and challenge Manchester City for the Premier League, Luiz should want to stay you would hope.
Whatever happens, he is going to be worth a fortune and given the current state of the market who knows how much Villa would demand.
