Aston Villa have once again been linked to Ben Brereton Diaz, but Dean Jones has clarified his opinion on the potential move.
With the January transfer window fast approaching, Aston Villa continue to be linked to different players to add to their squad.
Following a great first half of the season, the winter window will pose and opportunity for Unai Emery to improve his side.
The Villans missed the chance to go top of the table this weekend following a draw to Sheffield United. Despite having 78% possession they struggled to create any true goal-scoring opportunities and fell behind.
Their blushes were saved by Nicolo Zaniolo’s first Premier League goal but the lack of creativity was a concern. This has seen links to attacking reinforcements for the transfer window be rife in the days since the draw.

What has Dean Jones said about Ben Brereton Diaz?
Since moving to Villareal in the summer, it is safe to say that Ben Brereton Diaz has struggled to settle down. With just two starts and 11 appearances off the bench in La Liga, he is yet to score or assist in Spain.
With that, a potential move away for the Chile international has been touted for many weeks. This has seen Micah Richards discuss a move to the Villans as a suggestion.
Now Dean Jones, speaking with Give Me Sport, has opened up about the versatile attacker and the recent links to the Midlands.
On that, he said: “It’s a strange one. I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad idea to be looking at Brereton Diaz or a player of his level.
“But Aston Villa are in a position where they could unexpectedly be top of the league at Christmas. If you’re in that position, even if it is surprising, you’ll probably be looking to make more of a statement than signing Brereton Diaz.”
It must be said that Villa are in need of some attacking depth. A versatile forward who can play as a striker and winger would be of great use to Emery’s squad moving forward. Given his lack of goals and assists, he may pose a risk if he is signed in January.
With that being said, he does have plenty of quality. 22 and 16 goals in his last two Championship seasons with Blackburn Rovers show that for a fact.
The Chilean would represent great value and, positionally, Brereton Diaz is the ideal player to join up with the Villa squad. Although Jones doesn’t back the move, Emery and Co could do much worse this winter.
