Journalist, Neil Moxley has opened up about Aston Villa’s position coming into the January transfer window and the latest on Douglas Luiz.

It has been a great season so far for Aston Villa and the January transfer window poses an opportunity to build on that.

Under the management of Unai Emery, every player has gone from strength to strength but new signings have still been made.

Over the summer, stars like Pau Torres, Moussa Diaby and Youri Tielemans came in and have had such a positive impact.

The Villans currently occupy third place in the Premier League and are deserving of it following wins over Manchester City and Arsenal.

With that being said, there are links of stars leaving, especially Douglas Luiz who has been linked to the Gunners for months.

What has Neil Moxley said about Douglas Luiz?

Luiz has been one of, if not Villa’s best player this season such has been his quality and form in the Premier League and Europa Conference League.

As a result of this, rumours linking him away from the club have been rife, especially with Mikel Arteta’s Gunners side.

Speaking with Give Me Sport, Moxley first opened up about Luiz, his form this season and the links away from the club. On that, he said: “Strangely, at a press conference, Emery said he was on his case as he’s not doing enough. He wants more goals and assists. We’re thinking, ‘Wow, you’re tough’, because from where we’re sitting, he’s doing a pretty good job there.’

“Villa don’t need to sell and don’t want to sell. Luiz signed a lengthy contract when there was interest from Arsenal at the start of the 2022/23 season. The owners won’t be pushing for a sale either.”

It is safe to say that the Villans don’t need to sell given their position right now. Although Dean Smith wasn’t for saying Villa were in a title race, it is certainly in the conversation right now.

Continuing on about Villa’s ambition, Moxley added: “This is precisely what they came into Aston Villa to do, to get into the Champions League positions. So, now they are there, and they won’t shoot themselves in the foot by selling one of their most valuable assets unless they have to.

“If there’s an escape clause, it’s down to the player, and he could be off. But I don’t see Luiz going anywhere in the January transfer window.”

Given what happened with Jack Grealish, this feels unlikely. With the form he has shown, he can’t be and won’t be sold.
