Former Aston Villa favourite Albert Adomah has returned to the West Midlands after finding a new club this summer.

Over the years, Villa has had plenty of players who have helped push the club forward. In recent years, John McGinn and Ollie Watkins are the two most prominent names after the duo were part of the team that achieved Champions League football last season.

However, despite all of the club’s recent success, none of this may have been possible without the playoff-winning side.

Villa were stuck in the Championship for three years until they won the playoffs under the guidance of Dean Smith. Many of the players in that squad are fondly remembered by the Villa Park faithful including Adomah.

Now, the winger is set to start on a new adventure for the 2024/25 campaign which will see him return to the West Midlands.

Adomah joined Villa in 2016 upon their relegation from the Premier League. During his three seasons at the club, the winger was everpresent in the starting XI with his highlight year coming in the 2017/18 campaign.

Here, he netted 15 goals in all competitions as Villa lost the playoff final to Fulham.

However, with the help of Adomah, Villa managed to go one step further in the following season as they beat Derby in the playoffs to earn promotion to the Premier League.

After this feat, Adomah was released by the Birmingham outfit and has spent the last four campaigns at QPR in the Championship.

In the summer, he was released by the capital side but quickly found a new club. Walsall, who now play in League Two, have signed the 36-year-old on a one-year deal.

He will now be aiming to get his third promotion on his CV as the Saddlers pursue League One football.

Upon signing for Walsall he said: “Now that I’m officially a Saddler, I can’t wait to get started. I started off in League Two at my local club Barnet nearly 16 years ago so now I’m back in League Two where the journey started.

“I’ve had so many achievements in my career, getting promoted twice from the Championship with Aston Villa and Middlesbrough. Hopefully, I can achieve that fate with Walsall, that’s the intention.

“It’s a young group, but with my experience, hopefully I can help the youngsters.”

Good to see members of Aston Villa’s playoff-winning squad still going strong

Villa’s playoff-winning team could go down as one of the most important squads in the club’s history. If not for them, the Birmingham outfit could still be stuck in the Championship meaning no European football or Unai Emery

Therefore, it is great to see that many members of the squad are still going strong in their professional careers.

For Adomah, it is some feat to still be playing at 36 years old. Hopefully, the 2024/25 campaign will be fruitful and he can help Walsall get back into League One.

When he retires, the winger will always be welcome back to Villa Park with many fans having fond memories of him.
