Monchi could be alerted to an update on one Aston Villa target’s future as Unai Emery eyes further new signings.

Although this week has been impressive for Aston Villa in the summer transfer window, Monchi and Unai Emery will be on the prowl for additional signings.

On Monday, Villa welcomed Samuel Iling-Junior, Enzo Barrenechea and Ross Barkley to the squad, seeing the trio join Lewis Dobbin and Ian Maatsen.

While the new additions to the squad are encouraging for the Midlands club, further moves are expected to be made, with one target’s future now made clear.

As we move deeper into the summer transfer window, plenty of moves are to be made by all clubs, with Villa aiming to be particularly active.

Now that the cloud of Villa’s PSR concerns has shifted due to making sufficient sales, Monchi and Emery can move around the market more freely.

One player who has been linked to the Midlands club is former Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot, who is now a free-agent.

TuttoJuve reported Villa’s interest in May, claiming that Emery thinks highly of the Frenchman, whom he managed during his time at PSG.

The same source has now provided an update on the 29-year-old’s stance this summer, as he spoke to the media after France’s Euro 2024 victory against Belgium.

As relayed by TuttoJuve, Rabiot admitted that ‘something will surely happen’ in the coming weeks of the transfer window.

“Do I still feel like a Juventus player? If I’m not under contract I can’t say I’m a Juventus player. For the moment it doesn’t mean anything, only that as I said before I’m focused on the national team, we’ll see what happens. I don’t feel like talking about this right now.”

The France midfielder was then quizzed on whether he had anything to say to the Juventus fans upon the expiration of his contract, to which he replied:

“No, I think they know that I am focused on the European Championship, my focus is 100% on this. Then I am always in contact with the club, obviously, we will see what happens after the European Championship, something will surely happen.”

Monchi could strike gold with Rabiot transfer

As expected of a player with 452 domestic appearances playing at the top level in Europe, Rabiot’s future will be monitored by many this summer.

Still only 29, the commanding midfielder could offer a lot to the club that captures him, with Villa being in the running to explore his next move.

France and Juventus legend David Trezeguet once dubbed the Villa target as ‘world-class’, calling him an ‘exceptional’ player, telling of his quality.

In Rabiot, Emery could discover his natural heir to Douglas Luiz, who upon leaving to join Juve, took with him the creative spark he provided to Villa’s midfield.

The Frenchman has a similar playing profile to the newly departed ace, being a figure capable of adding a touch of class to an attack and break up play in the engine room.

It’s not every summer that a top player with numerous accolades is available for free, giving Monchi something to test his magic with ahead of 2024/25.
