Aston Villa loanee, Clement Lenglet is currently of interest to Bayern Munich as they look to add cover in a defensive area.

Since signing for Aston Villa in the summer, it has been a tough season when it comes to minutes for Clement Lenglet.

Under Unai Emery, he is yet to feature in the Premier League and has only been given minutes in the Europa Conference League.

It must be said that he has performed well and shone on the biggest stage for the Villans when given the chance.

No matter his performances in Europe, he hasn’t been given that Premier League opportunity. As a result, it appears his parent club, Barcelona seem unhappy with the deal.

This has seen them sound out other suitors with Bayern Munich being named as a surprise option for the Frenchman in January.

What has been said about Clement Lenglet?

It must be said that Lenglet has actually been a solid player in his limited game time. Villa fans have very little bad to say about him.

With that being said, permanent Villa players have been favoured, which can’t come as a surprise. Pau Torres, Ezri Konsa and Diego Carlos have been opted for in the centre-back roles this campaign.

In an article by SportsWitness, it has been suggested that Barca are growing impatient with Villa right now. On that, it has been said: “His situation at Aston Villa could convince Barca to consider cutting short his loan stay and selling him to Bayern in January, as long as the latter makes a convincing offer.”

This is because Bild believes Bayern want to add a centre-back to their squad in January. They have Lenglet and Atalanta star Giorgio Scalvini in their sights for the upcoming transfer window.

SportsWitness added: “It’s said a deal for the Italy international remains difficult because the Serie A side have no plans to sell the €40m-rated star. On the other hand, the report says it ‘could be easier’ to sign the Frenchman, who joined the Villans on loan from Barcelona in the last window.”

It appears that a cheaper deal for Lenglet may be opted for. Given the lack of game time that he has had for Villa, Barcelona may look to cut their losses sooner rather than later.

He would be a loss for Villa. Whether or not he plays very often is irrelevant. Lenglet provides left-footed centre-back depth which is always useful. The Frenchman has been great in the Conference League and would be missed should he leave.
