Aston Villa are expected to have a busy summer transfer window following their qualification for next season’s Champions League.

Manager Unai Emery has done a remarkable job in guiding Aston Villa to their first season in Europe’s elite club competition for the first time in 41 years.

Despite this, Villa are anticipated to have to make one or two big name sales this summer in order to ensure they do not breach Premier League and UEFA spending rules.

Balancing the books will be key this summer, but if Villa sell they should still be able to make signings to help prepare for what will be a difficult season competing on all fronts.

Even with the financial balancing act they are having to perform, it would not come as a surprise to see the club break their £51.9 million record transfer fee.

With that in mind, the following are the most expensive summer signings ahead of each of the past ten seasons with statistics taken from Transfermarkt.
