Aston Villa are discussing a loan deal for striker Wesley Moraes with Championship side Watford, according to a report.
The Brazil international joined Villa for £22m in 2019 as a star player from Club Brugge, but has been anything but at Villa Park.
The 26-year-old has suffered with a number of injuries, and managed just 26 appearances and six goals for the club, having also embarked on loan spells back at Club Brugge, as well as Levante and Internacional.
A report from Simon Jones in the Daily Mail has stated that Watford are in discussions with Villa over a loan deal for the striker, as they aim to replace Ismaila Sarr, who recently joined Olympique Marseille.
Wesley has just one year remaining on his contract, but it seems that Villa will cut their losses on the attacker, with seemingly no interest in a permanent deal for the centre-forward.
How does Wesley rank amongst Villa’s flops?
Given the fairly significant fee paid for Wesley, and the complete lack of any return on investment for Villa, the Brazilian will go down as one of the club’s worst signings in recent years.
Wesley was unfortunate with injury, having torn his anterior cruciate ligament midway through his first season in the Premier League, and it took him nearly a year and a half to return to action.

Wesley is the ninth-most expensive player in the history of the club, and he played half the number of games fellow underwhelming striker Danny Ings managed.
Whilst he was initially promising before his injury layoffs, Villa’s inability to recoup some of his fee back highlights the overall poor nature of the deal, and it will be the kind of transfer failure that the club will look to avoid under new sporting director Monchi.
