Aston Villa are showing an interest in Geny Catamo from Sporting Lisbon following a breakout spell with Vitoria Sport Clube.

Despite a good start to the season, Aston Villa appear to be looking to add reinforcements in attacking areas in January.

With Unai Emery’s side linked to Brahim Diaz recently, they now find themselves linked with the Sporting youngster.

Despite a great opening nine Premier League games, the Villains have suffered plenty of injuries that have hampered them

Alex Moreno, Jacob Ramsey, Emi Buendia and Tyrone Mings have all missed the start of the season.

Reinforcements seem to be on the mind at B6 so with that being said let’s take a look at Catamo.

Who is Geny Catamo?

The Mozambique international is having his breakout season with the Lions this season, making nine appearances so far.

Since his move, he has made three loan spells away from the club including with V Sports partner Vitoria.

He has made a good start to the season which has seen many Premier League clubs including Fulham taking a look.

Catamo came through the ranks of Amora in Portugal before making a move to Portuguese giants Sporting in 2019.

Able to operate as a right winger or even as a wing-back, he adds versatility down the flank.

What would he add?

He is a wide man who likes to cut inside onto his stronger left foot. This makes him very unique as a wing-back.

In Emery’s system, against bigger sides where he may want to soak up more pressure, Catamo could help form a back five.

Given his versatility and young age, he could be an exciting option and one that could grow under the Spaniard.

It is unclear as to the fee he may cost but given Villa’s desire for a forward and right back cover needed, Catamo could be the man.
