Aston Villa target, Jeremie Frimpong has had a release clause set on him by Bayer Leverkusen amidst elite transfer interest.

In spite of a good start to the season for Aston Villa, this hasn’t stopped them from being linked with January targets.

The Villans haven’t been shy about spending money under Unai Emery but they make sure to sign the right players when they do.

There have been expensive signings like £52m man, Moussa Diaby who has had a great start to life at Villa Park. On the flip side, Alex Moreno cost just £13m and had been a revelation until his injury at the end of last season.

The upcoming window will pose the opportunity to add to the squad that has done so well this season so far. Fans are looking for Emery and Co to bring in cover for the striker and right-back options. Today the chance to sign the latter has arisen.

What has been said about Jeremie Frimpong?

Villa were linked to Jeremie Frimpong earlier in the year and now with the latest revelation, they are set to return to him. As reported by Florian Plettenberg on Twitter, he has delivered some news that will be music to the Villans’ ears.

He has said: “Leverkusen expect him to leave the club in 2024. The 22 y/o is also very keen on a transfer. He has a release clause of €40m in the summer.”

With a release clause set in his contract, he becomes much more accessible to plenty of teams. This may scupper Villa’s chances to an extent.

So far this season, Frimpong has featured in all 12 Bundesliga matches as Xabi Alonso’s side sits top of the tree. Leverkusen have had plenty of standout performers this campaign and the Dutchman is definitely one of them.

The right-back has four goals and five assists which is a top-class record considering his position. He has added to this with two goals in the Dfb Pokal and Europa League this campaign.

He is a speedy attacking full-back who loves to get amongst the goals where he can. Although this may be the case he is also more than capable of defending and would fit seamlessly into Emery’s XI.

Frimpong may be tempted into a move to the Midlands given that former teammates Leon Bailey and Diaby have made the same move. The prospect of playing together again helped bring the Frenchman in and could help the chance of a move.

He would be an ideal and exciting signing for Villa to make and would yet again show the ambition of the Villans moving forward.
