Aston Villa set for Liga Portugal swoop with two stars linked

Aston Villa have reignited their interest in some high-profile Liga Portugal talents following unsuccessful pursuits in the summer.

The Villains were linked with both Pedro Goncalves and Frederik Aursnes in the most recent transfer window.

A move for the Sporting CP star was thought better of in the end as Moussa Diaby was brought in by Unai Emery.

Despite being linked to a move again, Aursnes had said “I don’t think it would have been tempting”, about a move to the Midlands.

With links re-emerging, let’s see what the two could add to the table at Villa Park.

Should Aston Villa sign Goncalves and Aursnes?

These two are completely contrasting players, with Goncalves a tricky attacker and Aursnes a solid defensive midfielder.

The Sporting man so far this season has three goal involvements across eight games. Last season he registered 15 league goals and 11 assists and piqued Villa’s interest.

With a deal in the region of £80 million being quoted over the summer, Villa were put off making a move.

If a cheaper deal can be forged in January he could be well worth bringing in.

In contrasting circumstances, it didn’t appear that the Villains submitted a bid for the Norway international.

He is a solid defensive midfielder and at 27-years old he brings plenty of experience to add to the conversation.

There are some reservations about signing the Benfica man due to his prior statements in the last window.

With that being said, if a move can be arranged he would provide excellent cover in the midfield for Villa.

They would cost a hefty fee as a duo. It could be well worth it given the pedigree that they come with.
