Aston Villa could come up against one player they almost signed this summer, as a Premier League club’s interest emerges.
The summer transfer window has been thrilling at Aston Villa, as Unai Emery has made it clear that he hopes to bolster the quality of his squad.
Next season, the Villans will play in the Champions League, reinforcing why the Spaniard is eager to strengthen his side, landing six new signings so far.
While the six new arrivals represent progression at the club in their own ways, one player almost didn’t join the club, as Enzo Barrenechea was thrown into Villa’s deal with Juventus for Douglas Luiz.
Initially, the Villans were believed to be in a position to receive Weston McKennie alongside Samuel Iling-Junior as part of the exchange; however, the United States international remained in Turin.

Everton now want Weston McKennie after failed transfer to Aston Villa this summer
McKennie didn’t make the move to B6 however, his future now seems to be far from Turin as Juventus are keen to offload the 25-year-old.
In a report from CalcioMercato, it was suggested that the American could still make the move to the Premier League this summer, as Everton are the latest club to be eyeing his services.
The report details that there is ‘no possibility’ that McKennie will be a Juventus player after deadline day, with the ‘latest proposal’ coming from the Toffees.
It’s said that despite there not being a ‘concrete offer’, Everton’s proposal is ‘more tempting’, as Juventus want at least €20m (£17m) to part ways with the midfielder.

There were several reasons that circulated regarding why McKennie didn’t join Villa, with the overriding opinion being both clubs’ inability to strike a financial agreement with the player.
Ultimately, Villa won’t be disheartened to learn that McKennie could sign for Everton this summer, with Barrenechea being a sufficient part of the deal after his encouraging start to pre-season.
Villa will face McKennie next season if he joins Everton
If anything, Villa fans will be glad that they dodged the bullet of the midfielder, who is known in the Premier League for his dire loan spell at Leeds United.
During such loan, McKennie was described as ‘eye-catchingly awful’ by Italian football expert Nima Tavallaey Roodsar.
As Villa searched for a suitable figure to be a part of the Luiz deal, McKennie didn’t flag as the calibre of player to replace the Brazilian although, he could now secure a move to the English top-flight as a result of Villa.
Villa are poised to announce the capture of Amadou Onana from Everton, which in turn, will leave the Toffees needing a new defensive midfielder, with links to McKennie coming at an interesting time.
It will be fascinating to see how the United States international re-integrates to the Premier League if he joins Everton, with a lot to prove after his time at Elland Road.
