Aston Villa returned to winning ways on Saturday with a crucial 2-1 victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage.

An Ollie Watkins double was enough for Unai Emery’s side to avoid back-to-back defeats for the first time this season.

“Personally, I’m not dwelling on that, and as a team, we’re not,” Watkins told BBC Match of the Day.

“It’s nice to get back on the scoresheet. It was a massive reaction to come here and win today.”

Emery was also full of praise for the striker, whose goals fired Aston Villa back into the Champions League places.

“He [Watkins] worked for it,” said Emery.

“It was a very tough match for him as well and he was fighting with [Fulham defender] Issa Diop. He was clinical today and really amazing.”

Things are certainly going well at Villa Park, and if Champions League football can be secured, adding to the squad in the summer will be vital.

With Watkins, Leon Bailey, Jacob Ramsey and John McGinn in good form, Emery could add further squad depth during the off-season.

One player linked with a move to Villa Park is Leeds United’s Crysencio Summerville.

Summerville breaks silence on Leeds United future

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano (via his personal X account), Villa are interested in the 22-year-old Dutchman, who has caught the eye this season.

It’s believed Burnley had a £20million bid turned down during the summer transfer window and interest in the winger remains strong.

Summerville has since opened up on his ambition to return to the Premier League.

“It would be great if I could be in the picture towards the European Championship [with the Netherlands],” said Summerville via Dutch outlet Voetbal Primeur

“Otherwise, I would find the World Cup in 2026 very special to experience in the long term.

“Right now, I’m really not thinking about anything other than the Premier League.

“I want to get back there as soon as possible.”

The 22-year-old would be an eye-catching piece of business for Villa should they look to firm up their interest in the summer window.

Summerville has 15 goals and eight assists in the Championship this season. Any player with that kind of output should be playing top-flight football.

Regardless of Leeds’ position in the pyramid, the 22-year-old should return to the Premier League.
