Aaron Ramsey has left Aston Villa and has signed for Burnley on a five year deal, becoming the 11th new signing at Turf Moor.

Another product of the Aston Villa academy is leaving the club, with Jaden Philogene-Bidace and Keinan Davis not far behind.

Despite only making a solo first team appearance for the Villains, there were high hopes after his Middlesbrough loan spell, he had the talent to make it. In different circumstances, perhaps he would have. But, instead, Archer is now heading for pastures new.

Why have Aston Villa sold Aaron Ramsey?

Burnley made a bid that was simply too good to turn down.

A reported £14 million deal represents pure profit for the Villains which will help them be able to make more signings. It also shows just how highly rated Ramsey is among fellow Premier League teams.

With the best will in the world, it is likely that he wouldn’t have a chance to play for Villa for a long time.

With Emiliano Buendia, Nicolo Zaniolo, Jacob Ramsey and John McGinn, there is lots of elite competition for Ramsey.

Unfortunately, it is more logical to sell when a great offer comes in than to loan him out infinitely.

With Davis as an example, not selling while value is high is something that can come back to bite.

There is supposedly a buy back option in the Englishman’s contract at the Clarets.

This provides the perfect transfer, where both sides win.

Burnley get a great player for their squad and Villa get a great fee for a player not quite in theirs.

Fans never want to see academy players leave, but in this case it makes sense.
