The goalkeeper is used as a backup to number one Emi Martinez who has cemented his starting spot between the sticks. 

However, in the cups or whenever the Argentine is injured, Olsen is given his chance to prove why he is a valued member of the squad.

What is Robin Olsen’s age and height?

Olsen was born on January 8, 1990. This makes the goalkeeper 34 years old at the time of writing. He also stands at 1.96 metres which is six foot five inches.

Where was he born?

Olsen was born in Malmo, the third largest city in Sweden.

When did Robin Olsen join Aston Villa?

Initially, Olsen joined Villa in January 2022 on loan from parent club Roma. While the goalkeeper only made one appearance for the club on the final day of the season, the Claret and Blue side opted to sign him on a permanent basis during the summer.

He has since remained at the club and has made 27 appearances in total across all competitions.

What are Robin Olsen’s biggest feats?

Over his illustrious career, Olsen has achieved many feats. His first title came at Swedish side Bunkeflo FF where he won the seventh tier title.

The following year, he won the Swedish fourth-tier title with IFK Klagshamn before he moved to Malmo.

At the Swedish giants, he won the Allsvenskan twice in 2013 and 2014 as well as the Svenska Supercupen.

Upon moving to FC Copenhagen, his title streak continued as he lifted the Danish Superliga in 2016 and 2017 with two Danish Cups also being added to his collection in the same period.

Individually, Olsen was named the Allsvenskan Goalkeeper of the Year in 2014 while he also won the Swedish Goalkeeper of the Year four consecutive times between 2016 and 2019.

How good is Robin Olsen?

While his chances at Villa have been limited, Olsen has impressed many times when he has played.

Against Brighton in the 2023/24 campaign, Olsen was praised for being ‘outstanding’ after making seven saves.

During the same season, Emery also confirmed that he trusted his backup goalkeeper when Martinez was injured. He said: “Robin Olsen has been very competitive every day in training. When he played he helped the team and the team believes in him and trusts in his performances.”

Does Robin Olsen play for Sweden?

Over the years, Olsen has been a reliable goalkeeper for his native Sweden. Since he made his debut for this country in 2015, he has accumulated 75 caps.

This has led to him playing both in the Euros and the World Cup.
