Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie had a loan stint with Leeds United last season, and could be on the move again this summer.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Aston Villa have not acted on any interest they may have regarding Weston McKennie. It seems that the Midlands club are happy to let this chance to sign the midfielder pass them by.
On the surface, this makes a good deal of sense, as Unai Emery already has a number of solid midfield options. On top of that, the 24-year-old failed to impress at Elland Road last season as the Yorkshire outfit succumbed to relegation.
However, there is an argument that now is a good opportunity to snap up the 44-cap USA international.

The case for Aston Villa signing Weston McKennie
There is no denying McKennie’s talent. He is a versatile player, and at his best can dominate the midfield zone. He is a confident ball winner, can pick a pass, and has an eye for goal. His form has certainly taken a dip, his confidence has been knocked, and Juventus seem happy to move him on. This means he may well be available for a cut price fee.
In this context, as back up and competition for the likes of John McGinn and Douglas Luiz, signing McKennie makes sense. This is especially true with Aston Villa about to embark on a campaign including European football. Squad depth and rotation will be key. Even with the exciting recent addition of Youri Tielemans, there is room for another body in the middle of the park.
Unai Emery’s highly structured and tactical approach could well suit McKennie and support him in getting back to his best. If he were to hit form he’d certainly be able to help the Villans maintain their momentum. They shouldn’t let this chance to sign McKennie pass by.
