Aston Villa showed interest in Conor Gallagher earlier this summer.

As reported by TalkSport, Tottenham Hotspur are considering a move for Conor Gallagher, who has already been the subject of interest from Aston Villa, Newcastle United, and Crystal Palace this summer.

Villa have already been busy in this transfer window, and recently announced the signing of centre-back Pau Torres. This follows on from the arrival of Youri Tielemans on a free transfer. There is still room for a further addition in Unai Emery’s midfield though, as the Midlands outfit prepare for a hectic schedule featuring European football this season.

Gallagher would be the ideal figure to add further depth in the middle of the park, and he has the quality to compete with the likes of Tielemans, Douglas Luiz, John McGinn and Jacob Ramsey for regular minutes.

Why Aston Villa should sign Conor Gallagher

Gallagher was a very useful member of Chelsea’s squad last season. The 23-year-old made 35 Premier League appearances. However, almost half of those outings came from the bench. The impending arrival of Moises Caicedo would make starts even harder for the Englishman to come by at Stamford Bridge. He needs to make himself a regular starter somewhere if he wants to add to his tally of 7 England caps.

Chelsea need to make sales this summer, and Gallagher’s age and potential make him an asset the Blues could look to offload. Villa would be wise to take advantage of this, as Gallagher’s tenacity and combative qualities, ability to progress the ball up the pitch, and stamina make him an ideal fit for Emery’s high-energy system.
