Former Aston Villa man, Andy Townsend has suggested that Unai Emery wouldn’t join Manchester United, saying the Villains are better.

It has been a great start to the season for Aston Villa. They find themselves comfortably fifth in the Premier League.

There has been plenty of praise levelled at Unai Emery for the transformation of the Villains.

On the flip side, Manchester United have had a topsy-turvy start to the season. This sees them sit in eighth place.

As a result of this, manager, Erik Ten Haag has come under fire, especially following a 3-0 Manchester Derby defeat.

What has Andy Townsend said?

The midfielder moved to Villa Park in 1993 as he departed a mid-table Chelsea side.

Townsend went on to win the League Cup in 1994 and was even captain of the winning side in 1996 against Leeds United.

It is safe to say that the Englishman is well-liked by the Villa faithful.

Speaking on TalkSport, Andy Goldstein had suggested that Manchester United need to go and get Emery from B6.

With that being said, Townsend believes Villa are better: “The team he’s got at Villa is a better team than the one currently operating at Old Trafford.”

On paper, there could be some argument for the Red Devils’ players but from a football perspective this season, the Villains are better.

On that point, the former Villa man added: “He’s got them absolutely buzzing, he really has. They’re playing fantastic stuff, 12 on the spin at home.

“It takes some doing and I think that the manner in which they’re playing and the goals they’re scoring, the confidence.”

Following the derby defeat for Ten Haag, Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher had argued about his philosophy.

With Villa’s Spaniard in charge for less time, he has his team playing in a special way.

There is no world where the Villa faithful want or can see Emery leaving and long live his rein in B6.
