Aston Villa manager, Unai Emery was pleased with his side’s performance following their 1-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
It was a back-and-forth affair, with the home side having the majority of the chances throughout. This didn’t tell the full story.
Villa had their chances, Lucas Digne and Nicolo Zaniolo were unfortunate not to get on the scoresheet. Two top-class efforts were well-saved in the first half.
Emiliano Martinez was on top form, making saves from Nicholas Jackson, Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell.
The scales were tipped in Villa’s favour when Malo Gusto was sent off for a terrible challenge on Digne, seeing red after a VAR check.
Ollie Watkins grabbed his first Premier League goal of the season. He took two bites at the cherry as he smashed it low past Robert Sanchez.

That was enough to secure all three points in the capital, Villa taking their second win, in as many years, from Stamford Bridge. Much to the delight of Unai Emery.
What has Unai Emery said?
After some tough results on the road so far this season, even the most optimistic of Villa fans had some reservations.
Especially against “bigger sides” the Villains have struggled on the road of late.
Emery was very aware of this: “We analysed, the top seven team candidates, and we lost too much while not being competitive.
“Today we needed to be competitive and face the match trying to be consistent.”
The Spaniard got his wish as his Villa side was on top form and it felt that they had the game in their own hands for large portions.
After the loss in Poland, fans weren’t best pleased and demanded an improvement.
The Villa boss felt the same way: “Very happy for the supporters, very happy for our reaction.
“We have separate every competition, and in the Premier League we are trying to be consistent.”
One factor that has been creeping into Villa fans’ minds recently is the Villa’s home form compared to their away.
On a record-breaking run at home, but often conceding plenty and losing on the road.
Mr Emery will not let that happen: “At home, we are very consistent but away is a bit more difficult. This three points today will help us a little bit to try and keep the balance.
“We have to try and be strong and try to keep a clean sheet each match.”
Villa looked more like themselves at Stamford Bridge, granted they don’t pose as much of a threat as they once did, a win is a win and a clean sheet is as sweet as ever.
