Aston Villa have seen their worst nightmare come to life as medical updates have revealed the extent of Boubacar Kamara’s injury after the Frenchman was hauled off during Sunday’s defeat to Manchester United.
Suffering defeat to Manchester United and subsequently dropping out of the top four was bad enough for Unai Emery’s Aston Villa side to experience, with matters now becoming a lot worse as Boubacar Kamara is set to miss the rest of the season.
The Frenchman was forced to withdraw from Sunday’s fixture in the 65th minute after going down unchallenged clutching his knee, leaving Villa fans anxious to find out the severity of his injury.
Aston Villa reveal Boubacar Kamara injury update
As reported yesterday, the club have revealed that after medical examinations, the 24-year-old sustained a ‘significant knee ligament injury’ identified as an ACL rupture that he will require surgery to repair.
Journalist John Townley described the news as a ‘devastating blow’ for Villa, who have now lost three players to the same injury this season with Tyrone Mings, Emiliano Buendia and now Kamara facing an extensive spell away from action.
On social media, the club’s official account posted a message of, “you’ll come back stronger, Bouba. We’re in this together,” to show support for the midfielder, who will now miss the remainder of the 2023/24 campaign.
The Frenchman has played 20 of Villa’s 24 fixtures in the Premier League this season, featuring as one-half of the integral midfield pivot alongside Douglas Luiz in Emery’s favoured XI, with the role he plays a difficult thing to replace.
How much Aston Villa will miss Boubacar Kamara
Aside from challenging for a spot in the top four, Emery’s side will soon re-enter the action in the UEFA Europa Conference League, a competition that Kamara played a significant role in to ensure the Midlands club made the Round of 16 stage.
Prior to his withdrawal from the game against Manchester United, the Frenchman was praised for his stability in midfield alongside Luiz, signifying just how much of a miss his presence will be going forward.

For the Villans in the Premier League this season, no player averages more tackles (2.2) or more interceptions (1.1) per game than Kamara, whose role gives his Brazilian counterpart the licence to roam upfield while he acts as the anchor.
The pair have an innate understanding of how each other play, with the news of the 24-year-old’s extensive absence giving the manager a decision to make with whom to replace him for the remainder of the 2023/24 calendar and beyond.
Now, however, is a time to wish Kamara the best of luck with his recovery, after what has been a devastating revelation for both player and club.
