After hearing of the news that Jurgen Klopp is stepping down as Liverpool manager at the end of the season, many clubs – including Aston Villa – are looking back on the battles they had with the German.
Jurgen Klopp has left the footballing world in a state of shock after announcing he’ll be stepping down as Liverpool manager in May.
He’s one of the greatest managers the league has ever seen and Aston Villa can certainly testify to that after coming unstuck against him on several occasions.
The Villans have lost six of their last seven matches against the Reds in all competitions while their overall record against Klopp reads: two wins, one draw and 10 losses.
In fairness, Villa supporters will be glad to see the back of him, although there was one time when the Midlands giants produced a stunning display against Liverpool.

The time when Aston Villa stunned Jurgen Klopp
Aston Villa welcomed Liverpool to Villa Park in October 2020. The Reds were still fresh from securing their first Premier League title and had beaten the hosts in five of their last six top-flight meetings.
What unfolded on that afternoon, however, was one of the most incredible results the competition has ever seen.
Villa produced a rampant performance by putting seven goals past Liverpool as a perfect Ollie Watkins hat-trick, a double from Jack Grealish and goals from John McGinn and Ross Barkley handed Klopp his biggest-ever defeat as manager.
It was also the first time since 1963 that the Reds had conceded seven goals in one match with Jamie Carragher describing the display as “one of the worst defensive performances I’ve ever seen!”.
In what was a truly incredible turn of events, Liverpool had no answer to the barrage of attacks that Dean Smith’s troops ploughed towards their goal which left his opposite number shell shocked.
Can Aston Villa end Liverpool’s Premier League title hopes?
Klopp will want to end his illustrious Liverpool career on a high and are currently five points clear at the top.
Unai Emery’s side, though, are breathing down their necks and are still in with a chance of pulling off a fairytale story themselves.
Despite drawing 0-0 against Everton on their last outing, Villa are only five points adrift of the league leaders and can’t be written off in this title race.
Yes, it’s going to be difficult to keep up the levels of consistency, but after an incredible first half of the campaign, supporters have every right to dream of beating Klopp’s side to the punch.
