Former England internationals, Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker have been discussing Ezri Konsa, his form and how deserving he is of a cap.
Following an injury to Tyrone Mings, Aston Villa fans feared for their defensive line moving forward into the season.
As most players have, Konsa has only got better since Unai Emery came in a year ago. In his centre-back partner’s absence, he has stepped up massively.
His form in the past year has helped to contribute to 12 clean sheets under the Spaniard.
As a result of his performances, Villa fans are questioning whether he should be awarded with an England call-up.
With a lack of minutes this season for John Stones and Harry Maguire, it doesn’t seem fair they make every squad.
What have Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker said about Ezri Konsa?
Despite the quality that Aston Villa fans have gotten accustomed to, Konsa doesn’t receive much praise from outside.
Following the thrashing of West Ham United, there has been more conversation arising.
Speaking on The Rest Is Football Podcast, the pair of pundits discussed the Villa man.
On an England call-up, Lineker said: “We have perhaps mooted it on the Match of the Day in the past that he was on the periphery. He has got something.”
With that being said there has never been any true clamour to get him involved in the international set-up.
In spite of that, Shearer was still keen to discuss Konsa’s performances: “He’s 25/26. He’s having a really good season and he was very good against West Ham.
“I have in my team of the week believe it or not. If he keeps on performing, he won’t be ignored – I think that’s pretty clear.”

With the England squad in its current state, there is plenty of top-class talent and regulars that are guaranteed a call-up.
This has hampered many players from receiving that call from Gareth Southgate.
Shearer believes his time will come: “If he keeps on playing the way he is, he’s going to get mentioned. If he keeps on playing well, I think he will get in there.”
Seeing Villa players play well for their country is always great and even better to see them doing it for England.
Hopefully, Konsa will get recognised for how good he is soon because he definitely deserves it.
