Former Birmingham City man, Robbie Savage has delivered his opinion on Aston Villa’s title and top-four finish chances.

It has been a great start to the season for Aston Villa. This has seen fans grow in excitement for where they could finish.

Under the tutelage of Unai Emery, the Villa squad has grown in quality and risen up the league. Considering he took over the club just over 12 months ago, to have them in the hunt for Champions League is crazy.

So far this season the Villans have won every single home game. They have also lost just three on the road which sees them sit in fourth. This form has seen many pundits sit up and take notice of the Midlander’s potential credentials.

With that being said, there are still reservations from certain corners of the footballing world over the longevity of their form.

What has Robbie Savage said?

It must be said that Robbie Savage probably isn’t the most popular figure around B6 given his ties to Birmingham City. These comments made after the Tottenham win probably won’t make him any more liked at Villa Park.

Speaking about the potential finishing spot of the Villans on BBC’s 606 Football Phone-In, Savage has gone against the general opinions.

On that, he said: “They’re not going to win the title. How are you going to get past Manchester City? Top four, yeah.

“I don’t think they will finish in the top four. I honestly don’t. But they are having a remarkable season. I think you could finish fifth.”

With Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Newcastle United all in the hunt to secure that fourth spot, it will be tough. With that being said, the Villans have shown their class this season and do have pedigree.

It has been a speedy rise to the top for Villa under Emery. The quality of the players they have will help propel them up towards the top four this season.

With the comments that Savage has made, some are fair. Given the quality and dominance of a side like Manchester City, a title charge is quite unlikely but the dream isn’t over until it’s over.

It also must be considered that a top-five spot might be enough to secure a place in the Champions League. With that being said, Savage suggesting a top-five place may not be the worst end goal.

With the Villa having a successful start to the season fans will hope that Savage isn’t right. Hopefully, the form can continue and Emery’s men push up to the top table of the Premier League.
