Aston Villa may only target a winger when the transfer window re-opens in January, according to a report.

The Birmingham Mail have claimed that the newly-promoted side, who spent heavily in the summer bringing in 12 players for over £100 million, are set for a quiet window.

It is said that Dean Smith might only target a new winger in order to boost his options in the wide areas, with Jack Grealish, Trezeguet, Anwar El Ghazi and Jota able to deploy those roles.

Villa need to add some attacking legs to their final third in January, with fans seemingly keen on a wide player and a striker.

Wesley is receiving mixed reviews for his performances, back-up Keinan Davis is currently out injured, whilst Jonathan Kodja hasn’t started a game this term and clearly isn’t fancied by Smith.

Either way, Villa need some fresh legs and if they do add a winger then it’ll be interesting to see if Grealish does revert back to playing in the middle of the park.

Grealish has been moved from the number 8 role to a wide role by his manager, and in recent weeks it has proven to have paid off.

But it wouldn’t be a surprise if another winger is added to see Smith move Grealish back into midfield, as these coming weeks before the window re-opens will be crucial to how Villa’s season will end up panning out.
