Aston Villa could be dipping into the transfer market by signing another defender this summer as they are interested in Burnley’s Ben Gibson, according to a report.

TeamTalk have claimed that centre-back Gibson is valued at £15 million by Burnley, who are hoping to offload the player this summer.

Gibson moved from Championship side Middlesbrough to Premier League outfit Burnley last summer, but the 26-year-old barley featured under Sean Dyche.

Therefore, it isn’t much of a surprise that Gibson is of interest to to other clubs, including Villa, who have signed Kortney Hause as their only defensive-minded player so far this season.

As things stand, Villa have left-footed Hause and the experienced James Chester starting their Premier League campaign, but there’s no doubt that Dean Smith will want more legs to his backline.

Bournemouth loanee Tyrone Mings impressed one and all last season, but he is yet to make his move from Dean Court to Villa Park permanent.

During his career, Gibson has played for Boro both in the Premier League and in the second tier of English football.

Following Boro’s relegation to the Championship, he stuck with the club, but they were unable to earn promotion last season as they were beaten in the play-off semi-finals – they were ironically beaten by Aston Villa on that day.
