Louie Barry has won the League Two Player of the Month award for his performances while on loan at Stockport County.

The Englishman signed for Villa from Barcelona and is currently on his fifth loan spell away from the club in less than three years.

This summer he signed a new contract in the Midlands before joining the League Two outfit on a season-long loan.

How good has Louie Barry been for Stockport County?

It is safe to say Barry has made quite the impression since joining the Hatters this summer.

In 12 matches so far this season, the forward has scored seven and assisted two. His goals all came in consecutive games, breaking a club record.

There have been rumours that he could be recalled in order to move to a club higher up the EFL. This idea didn’t go down well with County or Villa fans.

On the award, Barry said: “It’s obviously been a great month for me personally.”

Following multiple loan spells with limited game time and a lack of goals. This was a chance for him to find his feet as a senior professional.

This was the goal for the Villa youngster: “I knew coming here that I wanted to get my numbers up and start contributing with more goals and assists.

“To score in seven straight games, breaking the club record, it’s been the perfect start, and hopefully, there’s lots more to come.”

Managers reaction

Dave Challinor has been manager of Stockport since 2021 and has witnessed the rise of the club into the EFL.

Discussing the young loanee, he said: “I’m delighted for Louie. The award is obviously great recognition for him and his form.”

The club record is the headline that captures the imagination to show just how good Barry has been.

This was picked up on by his manager: “To break a club record of scoring in seven consecutive games was a brilliant achievement, particularly for someone so young.”

A great start to life for the Hatters, for Barry and long may his form continue.
