Pundit says Aston Villa outdid Manchester City with Moussa Diaby deal

Former Crystal Palace forward Clinton Morrison believes that Aston Villa made the best signing of the summer with their acquisition of Moussa Diaby.

Aston Villa paid a club-record £51.9 million to sign Moussa Diaby from Bayer Leverkusen this summer.

The attacker is already proving his worth at Villa Park. Diaby netted on his Premier League debut for the club, and was on the scoresheet again against Burnley. He also registered an assist at Turf Moor.

Unai Emery has primarily deployed Diaby in a central role for Aston Villa so far, operating in the No. 10 position, behind striker Ollie Watkins. However, the 24-year-old has the versatility to operate comfortably on the flanks, and can even be called upon to lead the line himself if required.

Diaby already looks like a bargain for the Villans, and there’s still plenty more to come from the 10-cap France international. Emery will expect the player’s influence to grow given longer to settle in to life at the Midlands club.

Morrison makes Moussa Diaby his signing of the summer

Clinton Morrison certainly thinks that signing Diaby was shrewd business by Aston Villa.

When asked who he felt deserved to be recognised as the best Premier League signing of the summer, the pundit told Premier League Productions, “it’s a difficult one. I could’ve said Kovacic because I love him at Man City, but I’m going to go with Diaby at Aston Villa, he’s the one I said to watch. He can score goals, he has pace and he’s been a very good signing from Bayer Leverkusen.”

Manchester City signed Mateo Kovacic for £25 million from Chelsea this summer. The Croatian has settled in to Pep Guardiola’s system quickly, and has featured in all four of the reigning Premier League champion’s matches so far this season.

Despite Kovavic’s instant impact at the Etihad Stadium, Morrison still believes that Emery has one-upped Guardiola in the transfer market by securing the services of Diaby.

Villa fans will be hoping that Diaby can maintain his strong start to the campaign and help the club improve on the progress they made under Emery last time out.
