Championship boss wants exciting Villa prospect

Finn Azaz starred whilst on loan at Plymouth Argyle from Aston Villa last season, so it is no surprise that boss of the third tier champions Steven Schumacher would like to see him return.

The midfielder made 39 appearances for Argyle last year as they clinched the League One title and secured promotion to the Championship. He scored eight goals and provided ten assists during his loan spell and Schumacher would like to sign him again next season.

“If we could bring him back I would like to bring him back,” explained the Argyle manager.

“He is a good player. If he wants to come back, we will have to see.”

Azaz is now 22 and is yet to feature for the Villa first team, so it seems likely that another move away might be sanctioned by Unai Emery. However, he did sign a new contract with the Villans before linking up with Plymouth, so whether it would be another loan move or perhaps a permanent transfer is yet to be made clear.

The youngster signed for Villa from West Bromwich Albion in 2021 and spent a campaign on loan at Newport County before his Argyle switch.

Whilst with Newport, Azaz made 45 appearances and scored seven goals, assisting another eight.

What next for Azaz?

He has proven his worth in both the third and fourth tiers in England, so the logical next step would be to test himself in the second tier. Should Villa look to let him leave on loan again, working in a system that suits him as much as Plymouth’s did would surely be the best bet.

Azaz would take no time settling in and would know exactly what is expected of him from the off. If he were to impress again then there would be nothing stopping him from fighting for a place in the Villa first team, however, that is looking more and more difficult with the amount of quality additions the Villans are beginning to make.
