Aston Villa President of Business Operations, Chris Heck has posted a tweet featuring an image which has created plenty of conversation between fans.

In the summer, Aston Villa announced the appointment of Chris Heck as the Club President of Business Operations. This sees him have a heavy say on the branding of the club.

In a statement on the club’s official website in May, Nassef Sawiris said: “We are excited to have Chris joining us as President of Business Operations. Consistent with our philosophy on the pitch, we have brought in world-class talent off the pitch to help us continue our growth. Chris’ arrival will further establish Villa as a global leader in sport and enhance the fan experience.”

Things on the pitch have gone very well, to say the least. Under the management of Unai Emery, the Villans now sit in third place in the Premier League.

Off the pitch, there have been discussions over various new additions and changes. Whether this be controversial hospitality changes or the new North Stand, there has been plenty for Heck to contend with.

On top of this, the new club badge and branding has been a constant thought in the back of Villa fans’ minds. Today there may have been an update on this…

What has Chris Heck posted?

Today, Heck has posted a surprising image to his Twitter page. This has left Villa fans questioning what the cryptic post and image is for.

The image appears to be a potential badge for the upcoming season featuring the initials of the club plus ‘150’ underneath. The number is a reference to the age of the club as it will be the 150th anniversary of the Villans next season. This as the club was founded in 1874.

It features a more traditional set of colours which more closely resemble the kits used by the club in their infancy.

It is unclear whether this is a new badge or something else to be used for the anniversary. Whatever it is going to be used for, it has definitely caused some conversation on social media.

How have fans reacted?

It is safe to say that this has divided fans. Some like the traditional nature of the badge and some aren’t so sure about it. This has seen the font and simplicity be questioned by fans. On the flip side, some fans are appreciative of the traditionalism and the colourway.

This fan made his feelings clear in the most simple of ways. Simply saying ‘No thanks’ sums up a large portion of the fanbase right now.

In contrast, James Rushton showed his appreciation for the badge by opening up the colours that are used. In recent years the club have been criticised for the claret colour they have used on their shirts. This version is much more traditional.

This fan was also making his feelings clear to Heck in a short and concise way. Saying ‘best not be the new badge’ is an opinion shared by many fans.

It is unclear as to what this may be used for moving forward. Fans are hopeful that this won’t be used as a new badge and will be more likely used as a memento for the anniversary.
