Moussa Diaby thanked Aston Villa fans on Instagram for their support after he helped Unai Emery’s side thrash Everton 4-0 on Sunday.

In pre-season and during that defeat to Newcastle United, Moussa Diaby wowed his new fans with his early performances.

And, on his home debut, surprise, surprise, he didn’t disappoint because he was out of this world.

The only thing missing from the 24-year-old’s performance was a goal because he deserved one for his efforts.

In the first half, Diaby was inches away from scoring a potential Goal of the Season contender when his rasping volley – yes another one – was amazingly saved by the cat-like reflexes of Jordan Pickford in between the sticks, before his effort smacked the post.

But that didn’t stop him from being involved in everything positive Villa were doing, including the opener from John McGinn.

Diaby picked up a pocket of space in between Everton’s sorry midfield and defence, before playing the ball out wide to Leon Bailey who danced left and right with the returning Ashley Young, before putting a ball on a plate for Villa’s captain.

Throughout the match, Diaby showcased outstanding close control, passing ability and link-up play with the likes of Ollie Watkins, Leon Bailey and McGinn, as he shared the following message on Instagram to fans after.

“First time at Villa Park and a great win,” said Diaby “✔️Thank you for all your support.”

Aston Villa pick themselves up

It’s only one game and one win, but that was a very good reaction to the humbling defeat at St James’ Park a week earlier.

As mentioned before, it was a week to forget for the club, both on and off the field of play.

But as Villa fans know too well, we are very lucky to have Unai Emery in the dugout and he would have been the calmest man at the club.

That’s why the team played with composure, style and real belief that they were going to get the three points.

And in truth, it could have been a lot more had the team not taken their foot off the pedal during the last half an hour or so.
