Former Tottenham Hotspur man, Michael Dawson has been discussing his Premier League Team of the Season so far and has included Aston Villa star, Douglas Luiz.
It has been a great season for Aston Villa which currently sees them occupying third place in the Premier League. As a result of this, there has been plenty of praise levelled at the Villa players for their performances.
Under the tutelage of Unai Emery, many players have improved and shown their quality since the Spaniard was hired.
From Pau Torres and the back to Ollie Watkins up top, there have been top-class performers all over the pitch in B6.
One man who has been praised in particular is Douglas Luiz such has been his upturn in performances in the last few years. This has seen rumours linking him to Arsenal and Manchester City be maintained over recent months.
With that being said, the Villans have shown nothing that has pointed towards a move away for the Brazilian. Whatever may be the case, Michael Dawson has spoken out about the Villa star.
What has Michael Dawson said about Douglas Luiz?
Speaking on Sky Sports on Boxing Day of his Premier League Team of the Season. Although there have been many top performers for Villa, Dawson picked out Luiz.
Discussing the midfield in his TOTS, he said: “Szoboszlai, Douglas Luiz, and for me, one of the signings of the summer, Declan Rice,” said Dawson. “I think he has been magnificent.
“Declan Rice holding, Szoboszlai and then Douglas Luiz. I think he has gone under the radar at Aston Villa. What Villa have been doing? He takes every free-kick. His creativity. He has just brought something else to the team. Brought goals. That’s my three in midfield.”
It must be said that being amongst some big names like £100m star, Rice, is a massive compliment to Luiz and his performances. Considering he is more of a box-to-box midfielder, to have eight goal involvements according to FotMob, is top-class.
Alongside Boubacar Kamara, Villa have got a great base to their midfield which has been complimented by John McGinn. Throw Youri Tielemans into the mix and the midfield conversation at Villa Park is one of the best in the league.
His performances have been quiet against Sheffield and Manchester United in the past week. Despite this, his quality can not be questioned. He is one of the most important players in the Villa squad and deserves recognition.
