Aston Villa captain, John McGinn has suggested that injuries have played their part on their season which hasn’t been noticed.

Aston Villa returned to Premier League action this weekend as Aston Villa fell to a goalless draw to Everton at Goodison Park.

It was the first time that Unai Emery had managed a 0-0 draw as a manager in the league after nearly 100 games.

There was plenty of controversy as Alex Moreno’s goal was ruled out as Leon Bailey was in an offside position. This has seen plenty of conversation regarding VAR and the time it took this weekend.

There were chances for Bailey early on and Jhon Duran very late in the day. Jordan Pickford wasn’t tested enough.

The game saw the return of Youri Tielemans following many weeks on the sidelines injured. This has sparked conversation about players Villa have missed.

John McGinn discusses Villa injury list

There have been no complaints made by anyone at Aston Villa this season, especially not Emery in interviews.

The Villans have had a great campaign which sees them battling for a top-four spot at the end of the season. This has seen them take shock wins over Arsenal and Manchester City along the way.

With that being said, John McGinn has now spoken with the Birmingham Mail over the injury troubles that Villa have suffered this campaign.

On that, he said: “Our mentality is right. We are in a good place. One thing which goes unnoticed, that a lot of people ignore, is that while teams have had injuries, so have we.”

There have been many sides like Newcastle United who have been ravaged by injuries which have hampered their season.

Villa haven’t had it that bad but there have been several injuries that have affected their first team this campaign.

On that point, McGinn said: “We’ve a hefty injury list. We have done throughout the whole season but we have adapted. Again, on Sunday, Pau Torres and Jacob Ramsey were out.

“We are missing some top players so for us to be in the mix, it is a really exciting thing to be waiting on them to come back.”

There is no doubt that players like Torres, Ramsey and Tielemans have been important stars this campaign. With them being missing the depth in the squad has lacked at times.

This has affected the team but McGinn and Emery won’t want to use this as an excuse moving forward. They need to keep their heads down and focus on the league and pushing toward the Champions League.
