What record can Ollie Watkins break?

Since signing from Brentford for £28m in 2020, Watkins has gone on to be on of Villa’s most important players. From his goal-scoring to his pressing from the front, his impact has been superb for the Villans.

At the time of signing, he did represent a risk considering he had never played Premier League football before. He spent the early part of his career with Exeter City before making a move to the Bees where he was successful.

With 26 goals in 49 Championship appearances in his final season in the EFL, he was on fire in the second division.

Ever since his move to the Midlands, he has scored goals. According to FotMob, he has played 142 games and scored 57 goals in claret and blue.

As a result of his excellent form since signing, he is set to break a long-standing English and Premier League record. This has been reported by Aston Villa Statto on Twitter who has said: “Ollie Watkins can become the first Englishman since Robbie Fowler between 1993-94 and 1996-97 to have scored 10+ goals in each of his first four Premier League seasons”

Given the pedigree of Fowler, this isn’t a record to be sniffed at for Watkins. Especially given the level of England strikers that haven’t done this. Think of stars like Wayne Rooney and Harry Kane who haven’t achieved this. To put the Villa man amongst those names is a testament to the work that he has done with the club.

Watkins has been a star in B6 and has undoubtedly improved under Emery. Long may his great form continue and even get better.
