Aston Villa manager Unai Emery faced his first press conference of the new season today as he discussed his expectations for the new season and the transfer window.
There is lots of praise being heaped on Villa going into the season due to a meteoric rise up the league table under Emery, combined with a top transfer window.
In his press conference he was visibly happy discussing the new campaign.
The Spanish coach is relishing this coming season and the pressure of that: ” Pressure is always positive to increase our expectation. We have to be excited to try and improve.”
Despite his optimism, Emery was quick to discuss the extra games his side will have to play: ” We are adding a new competition, Europe is amazing. I am very excited to face the Premier League as the first and most difficult competition we face.
“It is going to very difficult and very tough, we will have a lot of extra matches but I like it. FA Cup and Carabao Cup of course are also important.”
A manager that has won ten trophies in his managerial career, he won’t settle for mediocrity.
“We are now facing a top 7, there is still Brighton, West Ham and Fulham who want to be there also. This is a challenge I want.”

The Premier League is competitive as ever and achieving European competition again will be an uphill battle once more.
When asked about the transfer window so far Emery made it clear he was happy but wants extra additions: ” Yes, I am hoping for more.
“We did good work to not be in a hurry to get anyone we didn’t want and it is the same now. We are doing deep analysis and we are very happy with the process. We are still open to get something more and try and let some leave.”
With rumours of Nicolo Zaniolo and Gonzalo Montiel this week, Villa are definitely still active in the market.
Emery is looking forward to the season and has high expectations: “I am excited. I am very focused on the new season. I am excited but it has to be in good balance. I want to be better than last season but trying to do this with different and new players.”
