Fans have their say on Enzri Konsa’s England debut

With the international break underway, many Villa fans will have turned their attention to England. Many of the first-team earned call-ups to the Three Lions squad after a series of impressive performances at Villa Park this season.

One was Konsa, who has been at the heart of the backline this season as he aims to bring Champions League football back to Birmingham. The centre-half made his debut at Wembley in a 1-0 defeat to Brazil.

The defender went on to impress in his first appearance with England fans believing that he was one of the ‘few positives’ from the night.

Villa have plenty of forgotten men on the books at the moment. Injuries have seen many out for the season such as former captain Tyrone Mings.

Former first-teamers are also out on loan like Morgan Sanson and Leander Dendoncker. The latter was sent out to Italian side Napoli in January in hopes of securing a permanent move.

However, this now looks unlikely, with the midfielder set to return to the club with Napoli unlikely to trigger his buy-out clause.

While there have been plenty of positives in 2024, one problem that has consistently shown its ugly head is the backline.

The defence has continuously had problems keeping clean sheets, with set pieces being a real issue throughout the campaign.

However, over the international break, one statistic has emerged suggesting that Unai Emery should play Konsa and Pau Torres together at the back as they have an 87% winning rate in the Premier League when partnered.
