Former Aston Villa goalkeeper, Jed Steer has named the best player he’s ever played with and it is an obvious Villa star.
Even though he didn’t make that many appearances in his ten years with the club, Jed Steer is well-loved at Aston Villa.
Before the times of Unai Emery and Champions League hunts, Villa were challenging for promotion from the Championship.
This was eventually secured, at the third time of asking, by Dean Smith as Derby County were defeated in the playoff final at Wembley.
Thanks to promotion, the Villans were able to reach where they are now after years of building in the Premier League.
Many standout names helped to secure promotion. From loanees like Tammy Abraham to stars that are still with the club like John McGinn.
There were many moments in the run-in to promotion which were iconic and won’t be forgotten anytime soon. Steer is responsible for one of the most memorable Villa moments of the last few years.

Jed Steer names best Villa player
Coming to a penalty shootout against West Bromwich Albion, the nerves at home and in the stands were completely shot. Prior to the first spot kick, Steer stared down Mason Holgate in an amazing clip.
The keeper went on to save two penalties as the Villans won and secured their place one win away from promotion.
A place in the Premier League was secured on the day and many players became Villa icons. For sure, one of those was Steer.
It must be said that he may have been disrespected following promotion to the Premier League as Tom Heaton was signed. This put him as the second or even third-choice goalkeeper at the club until he got injured.
He left the club in the summer of this season as he was released at the end of his contract and he joined Peterborough United.
This week he spoke in an interview with his new club and has opened up about the best player he has played with.
On that, he said: “Jack Grealish. The way he plays, goes past people, the way he makes it look so easy. I have got to go with Jack.”
Speaking of iconic figures in that promotion season, they don’t come much bigger than Grealish and his tatty boots.
Considering the Villa lad went on to be sold for £100m to Manchester City, he is easily Villa’s best export of recent times.
It won’t come as a surprise that he is the man named by Steer such was the impact he had on the club’s fortunes.
