Danny Drinkwater has stated on his personal Instagram account that it is a ‘pleasure’ to put on the Aston Villa shirt after he secured a six-month loan deal to the Midlands club.

On Tuesday afternoon, Villa confirmed on their official website that Drinkwater, who was initially on loan at Burnley during the first half of the campaign, had made the temporary switch from Chelsea.

It’s a much-needed signing for Smith because in midfield his Villa side have struggled, not forgetting that one of his key men in John McGinn is on the sidelines for a significant amount of time.

Added with that, Villa have needed more experience and know-how in their squad, as they currently sit one place above the drop zone.

Nonetheless, after he put pen-to-paper on a contract at Villa Park, this was the message Drinkwater sent from his personal Instagram account to the Villa fans:

This is a move that suits both parties because Drinkwater needs the game time and he needs to prove himself again, whilst Villa, as mentioned above, need more legs and quality in the middle of the park.

During this campaign, the likes of Douglas Luiz, Marvelous Nakamba, Henri Lansbury, Jack Grealish, Conor Hourihane and McGinn have played in the middle of the park this term.

Whilst not being consistent, Hourihane has impressed, McGinn tailored off prior to his injury and Grealish is on the verge of being sidelined with a back injury because his backs hurts from carrying the team. As for the summer signing duo, they have been indifferent and need to improve.
