Charlie Nicholas has backed Aston Villa winger Trezeguet to ‘hurt’ Liverpool when the duo meet at Villa Park on Saturday afternoon.
Dean Smith’s side will host the Premier League leaders, as Sky Sports pundit Nicholas is backing the Reds to pick up all three points in the Midlands.
Last time out in the league, Villa were beaten at Manchester City, and this time they arguably have a tougher test on their hands because they face a team who is yet to taste defeat this season.
Former Arsenal striker Nicholas thinks that Liverpool’s unbeaten run will continue, but he did explain how Villa’s summer signing can potentially cause problems for Jurgen Klopp’s men.
“There is something quite weird abut Aston Villa – they are good going forward, but their weakness lies at the back,” Nicholas told Sky Sports. “Villa do not like to be overly cautious or tactical – they want John McGinn and Jack Grealish on the ball, with the energy and drive to find the gaps that Liverpool will leave open.
“It could be Trezeguet who could hurt Liverpool, especially in these wide areas. Everybody has seen with Trent Alexander-Arnold that he is unbelievable going forward but can leave gaps at the back, so how do you expose it?
“It is the wide areas where Liverpool can win and lose games, and this area could be damaging for Villa, who will try and play. This will suit Liverpool and they will pick them off.”
One thing is for sure, Smith’s side will go for it at Villa Park, but they will be well aware that they will have to produce their best defensive display if they are to win.
From an attacking sense, Villa will feel more comfortable because of how they set up from a tactical standpoint and their two best players are Jack Grealish and John McGinn.
But this is the game where Villa fans will be hoping that Grealish steps up and showcases what he is all about because if he does then it’ll increase Villa’s chances of getting something from the game.
