Omari Kellyman has his eyes set on an international career with England opposed to Northern Ireland.

Omari Kellyman switched his international allegiance from Northern Ireland to England recently.

Representing the county of his mother’s birth at Under 17 and Under 18 level, Kellyman switched last month.

In September, England handed Kellyman an opportunity to represent them at Under 19 level, one which he took.

Now with two caps at that level for England, it seems he is set to be a future international.

Kellyman backs himself to succeed for England

Speaking to The Athletic, Josh Butler who is Derby’s recruitment manager insisted Kellyman has ambitions to be an England International, and backs himself to do so.

“If he stayed with Northern Ireland, he gets in the first team. Paula [his mum] spoke to me and was in a dilemma.

“He didn’t do it on a whim, but Omari backs himself to go and do the business with England.”

Kellyman likely would already be a senior international if he was to stick with Northern Ireland, given the lower level of quality in the team.

At just 18, Kellyman won’t be expecting a senior call up under Gareth Southgate anytime soon, but will be keen to continue improving.

Under Unai Emery, Kellyman will be given the chance to develop as he has already with inclusion in the pre-season tour, and various cup appearances.

This has resulted in a Carabao Cup appearance alongside a UEFA Conference League game which saw an assist for the youngster.
