Juventus’ American midfielder Weston McKennie had a torrid time at Elland Road last season, but reports say he could now be Villa bound.

It has been reported in Italy that Juventus are looking to sell the USA international in the current transfer window.

According to Italian daily La Stampa via TuttoJuve, Juventus are hopeful Villa will make a move. A lot of this hope could be stemming from the Villa being interested in January.

The Italians are set to ask for a fee close to €20million (£17m) for the midfielders signature.

In January he had his eyes on a move to Chelsea or Borussia Dortmund, snubbing Villa and Unai Emery in the process, who had made a reported $32m (£25m)bid for him..

It is unclear why Villa would want a player who struggled at Leeds, given they have European football next season. Also since they have recently recruited Youri Tielemans.

At Leeds McKennie was criticised for his lack of fitness and mobility on the field.

Signing McKennie would be a mistake

Despite being a regular performer for his country, McKennie hasn’t been good at club level for a while.

For the USA he is a different man though, prompting Goal to compare him with the legendary Andrea Pirlo.

“On the end of several chances from set pieces, including one he seemingly played across the box rather than putting on frame just before halftime.”

They added, “His big moment, though, was his assist to Pepi. A Pirlo-esque pass from the Leeds United star.”

Despite this, for Leeds he did nothing to help them attempt to escape relegation. In fact McKennie’s friend went viral in April for claiming putting in effort “isn’t really his style”, in regard to the Juventus midfielder.

Signing McKennie would be a bad move for the Villains. Especially as it would diminish funds on a position that they are stacked in.

We hope Emery doesn’t allow this move to happen.
